Breakfast

Grapefruit without sugar or small serving unsweetened fruit juice.
Serving of lean bacon or ham (2 oz. 60 gram) serve, with tomato.
Egg ONLY twice a week.
1 large thin cut slice bread with suitable margarine e.g. Flora.
Tea or coffee NO SUGAR with skimmed milk from allowance.

Mid Morning

Tea or coffee with skimmed milk from allowance.  NO SUGAR.
1 plain semi-sweet biscuit allowed occasionally e.g. Rich Tea.

Mid Day Meal

Tomato juice or clear soup.
3-4 oz. (85-110 grams) lean meat or 4-6 oz. (110-170 grams) white fish.
One small boiled or jacket potato.
Good serving of cooked vegetables or salad.
Fresh or stewed fruit dessert  NO SUGAR.
Tea or coffee with skimmed milk NO SUGAR. 

Mid Afternoon

Tea or coffee with little skimmed milk NO SUGAR.

Evening Meal

As for mid-day.
1 thin cut slice bread may be taken in place of potato.

Bed Time

Tea or coffee with little skimmed milk NO SUGAR.
One fresh fruit, if wanted. 

Special Daily Allowances

½ - ¾ oz. (15-20 grams) Flora or suitable margarine/day.
4-6 oz. (110/170 grams)/week.
Up to 1 pint (600 mls) skimmed milk daily.
2 slices (2 oz-60 grams) large thin cut loaf bread.
3 items of fruit daily.

 You should not use any extra fats or oils in your diet until your weight has returned to normal.  Occasionally then, you may take foods fried in pure vegetable oil, roast, potatoes, sauces, a few pastry products, as long as they are home-made and the permitted fats are used.

 Use an Artificial Tablet or Liquid Sweetener to Replace Sugar.

 

FOODS ALLOWED

FATS

Margarines: Flora, Blueband, Sainsbury’s Special Supersoft, Kraft Corn Oil margarine, Alfonal, Outline.

Vegetable Oils: Safflower oil, Sunflower oil, Soybean oil, Corn oil, Cottonseed oil, Maize oil, e.g. Twirl, Mazola, (these oils may be used to make a French dressing – occasionally).

Dairy Products: Skimmed milk (fresh or powder), e.g. Marvel powder.  Low fat or fat-free yoghurt (read labels carefully).  Skimmed milk cottage (without cream addition).  Low fat curd cheese, Alfonal cheese, Egg white.

Meats: Very lean meat e.g. chicken, turkey lean beef, pork, lamb, veal, rabbit, very lean gammon or ham, good quality corned beef.

Fish: White fish e.g. cod, plaice, haddock, fatty fish e.g. herrings, tuna, sardines, salmon, smoked fish e.g. haddock, kipper.

Vegetables: All kinds, fresh, tinned, frozen or dehydrated.

Soups & Miscellaneous: Clear fat-free soups, made with stock cubes, Bovil, Oxo, Marmite, cream soups made with permitted oils and skimmed milk (occasionally), vinegar, Worcester sauce, tomato ketchup, pickles of all kinds.

Beverages: Tea, coffee, Slim-line minerals, natural fruit juices, sugar-free squashes, skimmed milk, Bovril, Oxo, Marmite.  A little alcohol occasionally. IF PERMITTED BY YOUR DOCTOR. 

Bread & Cereals: (Take in moderation because of high calorie values).  All bread, crispbreads, Motzas, water biscuits, all breakfast cereals, all nuts EXCEPT coconut, cashew, peanuts, rice and all pastas.

Puddings, Cakes & Sweets: (Only when correct weight attained). Skimmed milk puddings, fruit pies, crumbles, charlottes, flans, etc. made with permitted vegetable oils, or fats, jelly meringues, water ices, cakes and biscuits made with permitted vegetable oils/fats.  NO egg yolks.  NO full cream milk.

FOODS NOT ALLOWED

Fats: Butter, dripping, lard, hard margarines, suet, most supermarket brands of margarine, coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil, peanut oil, peanut butter. 

Dairy Products: Whole milk, whole milk yoghurt, all creams, condensed or evaporated milk, all hard cheeses e.g. Cheddar, all creamed cheeses, egg yolk (2 whole eggs ONLY allowed per week).

Meats: Sausages, fatty pork and bacon, all tinned meats e.g. Spam, luncheon meat, meat pastas, pate, duck, goose, kidney, heart, liver, sweetbreads, brains.

Fish: Shellfish e.g. shrimps, oysters, fish roes, fish fried in animal fat or coated in egg yolk.

Fruit: Avocado pear.

Vegetables: Those baked or fried in animal fat.

Soups & Miscellaneous: All packet, tinned, creamed and condensed soups, salad, cream, mayonnaise, (unless special home-made).

Beverages: Horlicks, Ovaltine, Bournvita or any other malted or bedtime drinks, *sweetened fruit juices and *squashes.

Bread & Cereals: Cream crackers and similar savoury biscuits, coconut, cashew and peanuts.

Puddings, Cakes & Sweets: Ice cream, sponge puddings, suet puddings, egg custard, bread and butter puddings, cakes made with animals fats or egg (all shop bought cakes), chocolate biscuits and cream biscuits, chocolate, toffee, fudge, butterscotch, caramels, lemon curd.

Preserves & Jams:  *Jam, honey, marmalade, treacle, sugar, boiled sweets, *marshmallows.

 *These items do not contain animal fat but are refined carbohydrate products and cause weight increase.  They should be avoided if at all possible.
